Joseph El-Duwairy
EGYPT – PAINTING
Joseph El-Duwairy (b. 1977) is an Egyptian artist based in Cairo who has developed a practice shaped by intuition, spontaneity and an intimate connection to the rhythms of daily life. He graduated from the Faculty of Art Education at Helwan University in 2000, and since then has held six solo exhibitions and participated in over 55 group exhibitions. He represented Egypt at the 7th Beijing International Art Biennale (2017) and the Chisinau International Painting Biennale in Moldova (2018).
El Duwairy’s art is deeply rooted in the human experience and often depicts Egyptian street life - exploring the emotional and cultural connections between people and their surroundings. He sheds light on the daily life of marginalized communities in a raw, heartfelt manner.
His work blends the awareness of an experienced artist with the curiosity of a child, preserving the fleeting moments that shape collective memory. Symbols, colors, and forms drawn from his surroundings keep his Egyptian identity present in each piece and connect his work to a broader cultural narrative.
El Duwairy’s paintings are included in the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo as well as in institutional and private collections across Egypt and Europe.
