Johnny Semaan (b. 1983), is a Beirut-based Syrian a visual artist renowned for his exploration of human anatomy and introspective themes relating to the self and our surroundings both constructed and natural. A graduate of Damascus University (2007) and the Lebanese University (2019), Semaan’s work combines symbolic compositions with vibrant, expressive color.


He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in Lebanon and across the region, including at Majaz Art Gallery, Four Points (2024), at 392Rmeil393, White in Greenwhich Time (2017), Scene from a Distance (2016), and Colourful Centimeters (2016), and at Joanna Saikaly Art Gallery, An Incomplete Scene (2014). He is the recepient of the 2019 Boghossian Foundation Prize for Painting. Semaan is also dedicated to art education, having founded the Zografow workshop for children.
